    Serious Safety Reminder!

Tonight, as I was waiting for my Sister to come so we could go to the Fair, I told Demi to stand by the back door and when Aunt Ericka came to come and tell me. Well anywhere from 5-10 minutes had passed and I was done working on the
computer, so I went in search of Demi so we could both wait for my Sister. I couldn't find her. I yelled for her in the backyard
because that's where Jim said she was, I even dreadfully checked the pool. I came back in and ran upstairs because I was sure she was there. Jim said, "no, she's in the back yard". I said "no, she's not I JUST checked." At this point, I'm starting to panic, she's not in the house, she's not in the backyard, where in the hell is she?????????????

Jim walked out the back door (still convinced she WAS back there and I just missed her) and as I was running back downstairs now in full panic mode because she wasn't up there, he says "she in my car". I bolted out the back door and sure enough, she got out of the gate, opened the car door and closed it. When I got there, she was panicking, sweating profusely and crying hysterically.

You guys, I almost died right there. I'm still in shock and cannot shake the feeling of, what if. What if, I had waited until my sister showed up to go for Demi to go to the fair. What if, what if.

So please, please remember to make sure you kids cannot get locked inside a car. I cannot stress that enough. You know, you hear it all the time on TV and read about it in the paper. Tonight, it might have been my Demi!

      HOW SCARY!!!!
Thanks God she is okay. How old is she? My now four year old would have tried something like that during her terrible twos. Once on a interstate doing about 70 she managed to unclick her car seat and open the door! (I still have no idea how she did it, but she did it again after that. This time I had child safety locks on.) Thanks GOD I had my other daughter back there to tell me, she grabbed her while we pulled the door shut and pulled over. I sobbed for almost an hour with the horrifying " WHAT IF"!!
Dont beat yourself up to much. Every parent has at least one of those scares. I think maybe God allowes them to keep us on our toes sometimes. Being a mom is terrifying sometimes.
      Take care.

She's 3.5 going on 12! Evidently she thought she was a "big girl!"

WOW, just saw this post! It reminds me of the day back in 1990 when my oldest boy who was three at the time came in while we were preparing for Church and said "I wanna goto Mami's (grandma two blocks away) house and watch 'toons" (cartoons).

I told him "no, we're going to Church". Next thing I know I go to get him and low and behold, no Joshi. Deadbolt open! Ran down the block, wife started calling neighbors on the way to Mami's, 15 minutes no Joshi! My wife called the North Miami PD, they came fast! The cop took off to canvas the area and as i am walking the street a tiny Ford Ranger with an older black couple inside comes slowly down the street with this little tiny white kid standing on the seat sucking his thumb. "we saw him walking alone and snatched him up, we figured he belonged to somebody!" We made good friends with those folks that day. They had raised quit a litter themselves it turns out. This was my first incident and i was already picturing what the Milk Carton Picture would say in the caption. We laugh about it now, I damn near died then and am certain it took some moments off my life.

I am glad that you located your child quickly, you may want to teach her how to get out of the car also, because kids will do things. Enjoy them while they are young, no amount of money can by any memory away from me of when my boys were tiny. Like the day i told Joshi (fresh from a PRIVATE CHRISTIAN kindergarten with his "new words") to say hi to the lady in the bank and he said "hi, ya big fat ho' ", NO JOKE. he got Softsoap on a toothbrush that day. Call me cruel but i have two kids that WILL NOT cuss at all and one that at least will not do it in front of me and rarely from what I am told in front of others (he absolutely won't back down from a fight and has told me that when he's been in situations he uses language but that has more to do with when you are in the minority trying to hold your own.

LOL!!!! Man....thats priceless. I know how you feel though. My daughters are pretty innocent and we have VERY VERY strict rules around here about foul words, talking back and bad behavior. Its difficult trying to keep kids in line when they go to church/school/activities with kids with no ground rules. We thought keeping them within the church for activities would help, and it does to a point, but some of those kids are rotten too.

(BTW As a child I had my mouth washed out with soap and my even my 'heiney' wacked, and I'm non worse for the wear. I learned early on not to say bad words and stick my tongue out at my dad.)

Yep, got my mouth "washed out" a few times in the past, and sure got my "tail" busted enough growing up....... I was a stubborn child, so the switch, paddle, belt, and soap - GOT USED A LOT........

Guess I turned out okay after all................they finally beat some sense into me......

I'm just happy that the child in this case was located! Anyone with kids has been there, it happens, just thank God for mercy and Angels.

I have three boys and alot of stories, the middle once locked the babysitter out of the house when he was six, he also used to hide outside the front door and yell "hey sexy" to any girl that came by then bolt for the house, until he banged his face when the oldest locked him outside. They had the youngest scared to sit on a toilet because the Gator's in the lake out back of the old house would "come up through the toilet".

We have dwarf who lives in our neighborhood, since time began, a nice man from Mexico, I am not kidding. He is an old time Sunriser, pre-1990, a regular. The kids in the neighborhood took to him because he would go from house to house frequently asking for a certain kind of clothing. My wife knows the particulars of that better than I. However, AGAIN my two oldest convinced the youngest that if a Dwarf touched you, you would be magically changed to a Dwarf. About twice the man came down the street and the youngest ran in front of him (not away to the house like you would think) screaming and crying in absolute embarrassing terror not even able to hear my voice, he thought he was being chased and i to this day do not know all that they told him. I had to go pull him away and apologize. As I also have a noticeable birth defect I understand the predicament that ignorance places us in. But I have to admit that the scene was bloody comical and I was struggling not to laugh at my son myself.

They also cheated him out of nearly all of his allowance, pulled his pants down. They used to get in "silent fights" in the room so i couldn't hear them downstairs. I caught on to that. the younger one learned to fight well, is in Boxing now and is also going in to the marines, having already been sworn in (he leaves next June though). That has been his dream since he was 12.
