    Identity Theft

I'm putting this here cause it has nothing to do with bk.

a few months ago I discovered I was a victim of identity theft. Someone had gotten ahold of my atm and charged up a bunch of stuff online.

i filed a report and the bank returned all my money.

today, I get a letter from a collection agency from one of the retailers this thief ordered from.

I have all the paperwork & such - it is just a huge pain in the arse to have to deal with this when I have so many other things to do.

Here's the link to the FTC's website on how to deal with identity theft AFTER your identity has been used by someone else - http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsite...rs/defend.html

You're a smart cookie so you are probably doing all this already, danaf.

A friend of ours was a victim after someone in a restaurant stole her credit card number. It's an incredible hassle getting everything straightened out afterwards, and not just with creditors and collectors. Her credit report was a mess too

Sure hope that you can get everything straightened out soon - hang in there! Vent here whenever you need the release, ok?
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Maybe the advantage of being in a BK is that I don't have credit cards anymore, and no one can get credit with my awful credit scores, lol. I do need to worry about my bank card though, if someone ran up bills on it, I wouldn't be able to pay my bills while I waited for things to get straightened out! Yikes!

I remember years ago before the plastic card phenomena. How everyone raved how it will make our lives so much better & safer. No one will have to worry about having money stolen ever again.

Um, I think they were wrong about that.

While in some ways it did help, in other ways it has made it much easier to steal.

Next it will be something like pay by finger and have the RFID inserted in our hand. OH, that will be so safe because we can never lose our finger.
What will the criminals do then, with no numbers to swipe, repeat over the phone or punch in?
Most likely just Chop off our fingers and cut out our microchips or force us by gun point to swipe our fingers on the computers. That will be real safe. Talk about a pain.

It will be real interesting when every product we buy has an RFID. Well, at least you will know who stole your hammer & who is wearing your socks.
