About a year ago my husband was in a car accident. (His fault, he fell asleep at the wheel). He eventually went to court for it. I have the paperwork in front of me and it says....
case no ticket no offense description
xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx OP MTR VEH/REGIS/SUSPEND
xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx NO VALID REGIS/1st and 2nd
xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx FAIL TO REDUCE SPEED
xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx FAIL TO STOP/HWY CONST SIGN
Now, he went to court and the lady(prosecutor) said that she if we could prove that the car was totalled and given up in bankruptcy, she would drop all charges. SO - she set forth another court date for him to bring her the paperwork.
Next court date I have a nice little file of things for husband to bring to court. The prosecutor was a different person who said he didn't want to see the paperwork or anything and that husband would have to pay $1000 fine for the "no registration" offense. Okay, while not ideal, we really can't argue with this.
Fast forward to this past Friday. I receive a letter saying that my husband has violated the mandatory insurance law and that our plates on the totalled car are suspended. I wasn't really thinking when I called, but I told the at the mandatory insurance office that the car was totalled and not driveable. She said not to worry about it and that I wouldn't need to do anything.
Later that evening, my husband came home and I playfully was making fun of him over it. (Not really concerned anymore). After looking at it he starts getting angry. I tell him it doesn't matter and that we won't be driving it anyway. Then he comes up with something I never thought about.
The paper said "Mandatory Insurance" - nothing about registration. So now DH is worried that they will try to press us to get an SR22 for him. It states that it was due to a "court conviction". So, I pull out the paperwork to make sure there wasn't a mistake on our part and it isn't. The court conviction was for a suspended registration.
So, do you think I need to worry about this??
FTR, my husband already had the registration problem taken care of and already went through an SR22 (that has been completed)
