    Tornado

Good Morning Folks - glad to still be with you!!!

Had a tornado touch down about a mile from me yesterday afternoon and do some damage...

I sit at a neighbors and listened to wind, rain, and lightening as the severe storms passed thru.

We made the National News and Weather station again.......
this place is turning into tornado alley.......... have had several in the last few years.....

    Thank goodness no one killed.....

Wasn't a "big one" (probably F1) but big enough to do a lot of damage to a small town just outside of my town. Several homes/barns exploded, some burned (probably meth labs - he,he) and lots of trees down....

Only good thing about it all - we got 2" of MUCH NEEDED RAIN in our drought area.....

So now today is another dull, boring day in this part of the country......

Glad that you were not in the path. Anyone homeless? I have not seen the news.

      Thank goodness no one perished!

Whenever I hear of twisters and/or having tornado warnings in my area, I think of a devestating F5 tornado that ripped through Jarrell, Texas on May 27, 1997. There is a photo in the link of the most spine tingling thing I have ever seen. About halfway down the article and photos is a picture of the twister, and Indian legend has it that if you see the dead man walking, you are about to die. The picture, "Dead Man Walking" is bone chilling.

A few people will be living elsewhere until damages are fixed, and 2 or 3 will have to rebuild.....

Just a baby tornado....... not like the great -great -grandpa like in 1974 that hit Xenia, Ohio. The granddaddy of them all. They still show this one every year on the weather channel during their tornado season warnings. Biggest thing I ever saw in my life and hope to NEVER see another like it...... DEVASTATING.....F5 ++
I watched it come across the sky and turn towards the town next to us... The base on it was a mile or more wide............. caused SERIOUS SERIOUS damage and loss of life....

I still get very nervous when I know they are in the area, or the possibility of them.....

If it gets unbelievable still outside and the sky turns a funny color or yellow.....then the clouds start rolling end over end - YOU BETTER TAKE COVER.........

My youngest brother called from Ohio this morning to see if I was okay...... it was on the news in upper Ohio where he lives. Think it scared him..... Years ago he had a tornado come thru where he lived - destroyed his camper, barn, flattened his crops, and took out half his house.... Thankful they weren't home at the time....

        Scary world out there sometimes..................

So glad to hear you are ok, Minny!

I've lived in Tornado Alley all my life. When I work out of town with clients on the coasts and they find out where I live, I always get a ton of questions about tornadoes.

In 56 years I've seen one tornado from very far away out in the country when I was in my 20s, and had one touch down within five miles of our house (also out in the country) about 15 years ago - otherwise....a big nothin' Lots of intense wind and lightning from multiple big thunderstorms every year with some time on our basement just in case when the sirens go off - that's all. Pretty boring.

Earthquakes and hurricanes seem far more menacing to me because they impact multiple square mile areas. Even the biggest F5 tornadoes at a mile wide can't compare to the sheer volume of devastation from these huge events.

I'll take the chance of a tornado any day over living in Hurricane Alley or along the San Andraeus fault Guess it's all in what you are used to dealing with...

                Minny,

                Glad you're okay!

I've only experienced one tornado in my life, I think it was back in 1980 and blew through some Detroit suburbs when I was in my last year of high school. The sky turned green and it was real spooky! I do believe our tree in the backyard cracked. It was old and huge & fell on the roof of the garage.
