Because society has become too refined pushing everyone into one little tiny space. It is called the individuality doctrine. I can see that happening sometimes but why is it so bad for the family to sit down for dinner at least once a week? So many kids just do not want to be there at all.

Please keep the soap coming. My back needs scrubbing.

The nuclear (traditional) family structure is quickly becoming extinct...

It is. It is like there is a whole in the bucket dear Liza, dear Liza and all the members of the family keep falling through it. So now people just shack up and you have kids and parents from everywhere living in different places. (I am not saying that is bad either)

The only thing I wonder, if you don't find the love and respect at home, then how can one expect to find it much in the world if much of the family (blood) type values are gone? Maybe that is why it is so different today.

I also noticed the TV shows do not present much along the lines of family like they did in the 60's. PaKettle earlier mentioned Leave it to Beaver- That is still my idea of family (though maybe a little too perfect), but I know it is not like that any more.

Another one was All of My Sons? or All Three of My Sons? (in the intro a foot goes up & down) I like that one too for family.

          Bandit,

Being a baby boomer, I loved the trip back on "Memory Lane." I also loved the music.

I can remember when television programming came on at 4:OO-5:00 pm. You played outside all day, then came in to watch the mouseteers. The standard rule for the neighborhood was you had to get home when the street lights came on.

I was a teenager during the late 60's and remembered Woodstock and the Vietnam War vividly.

I was a love child, too; complete with the long hair and bell bottoms. (minus the drugs, though).

I'm a baby boomer as well. Graduated from high school in 1968 and from college in 1972. I was most definitely a flower child, with bell bottoms and love and peace symbols over all my things. I vividly remember a pair of white bell bottoms with blue and yellow daisies all over. LOL!!! I wanted so badly to go to Woodstock, but my horrified parents wouldn't give me permission. And at the time, legal age was 21, not 18 like it is today. Back then, children obeyed and respected their parents. And that included me.

I lost two good high school friends to the Vietnam War, when they were mere babies still... just 19. This is perhaps why I'm so virulently against the Iraq War fiasco.

One thing I observe is that video games are probably a really bad influence on kids and thus society. So many games are about violence and crime and sex. If I had kids, today, I would really try to steer them away from violence and crime type games. Sex isn't so bad I don't think, but it's not something that should be drilled into young kids day after day at a young age (MTV).

Although I wouldn't ban these things, I do wonder if parents should maybe try to point their kids into more wholesome activities - maybe like smoking pot and listening to music, like we did in the 60's! ;-) But I guess there's only so much you can do when all the other kids at school and in the neighborhood are playing these games and listening to rap music with questionable morality at best.

I don't know. It just seems like the popular music is all about sex and violence, the video games are all about sex and violence, tv is all about sex and violence, fashion is taken from gangs and prison culture, etc etc...

It just isn't a mentally healthy environment for kids these days.

At least the hippies were into peace and love, not violence.
