There is no inspection though. I would be building my own from scratch as I could afford to do so. The only thing that might need inspection is the mobile home that I would be in for a few years until it is done. I know what you are saying about inspections though- but where I would be going there is no such thing. I know that is hard to believe but when you get far enough into the boonies you are free to build on your land as you please. Places like Wyoming and the Dakotas and some places in the South you can still do this without getting permits and going thru all the city crapola. There is water, electric, phone a cable out there but there are no gas lines, so I am sure there would be inspections when water and electric are hooked up.

So maybe the first year I start building the only thing I could do is a basment and foundation wall. It is not like looking thru the paper to find a house to buy and going thru the bank or finding a real estate agent to get a loan.

Yes, that's excellent advice. My realtor really encouraged me to opt for a pre-purchase inspection because this is a 25-year old complex. No immediate problems found, except that the kitchen garbage disposal didn't work. But AS PREDICTED, the a/c was on its last legs and died soon after closing. It was nice in a way to be prepared for it so that the expense didn't come as a shock. The kitchen appliances were all new, so no problem there.

The $200 the inspection cost me was worth every penny.

I realize this inspection post may not apply to Bandit in his situation, but it's good advice for everyone, in my opinion.
