Ever get kidney stones? If they were large (over 5 mm) then you know the pain.

If you ever do get them or are developing without knowing,, pray that they are small when they pass, so you do not suffer or need surgery

Yep, after 4 hours at emergency on sunday, I have 3 nasty kidney stones trying to pass. The last 3 days & nights have been like a horror torture movie of constant screaming in agony, begging for mercy from the pain. It started out with this horrifying pain in my back which I thought was muscle then turned into the worse pain I have ever had in my organs.

3 pain killers per hour when it should only be 1 pain pill every 4 hours.

Next I am constipated for almost 72 hours with exlax not budging anything. A constant fever of 100 & I just know it is due to my kidney backing up & not being able to use the toilet.
I go back to the doctor tomorrow, who says I need two different types of surgery. Just what I need. More surgery & it has not even been a year from the last surgery.

The head doctor at the emergency said my pain was completely off the charts for kidney stones when I first came in, which explains why the pain meds do not help much.

and I was just preparing to file for BK this month?
Will my new insurance cover this or will they cancel me & tell me it is preexisiting & not pay a penny?
I mean, obviously kidney stones do not just appear over night.
From ER to the end of all this will run close to 10,000 dollars as if I dont already have enough medical problems & doctor bills.

& how do we get them? by eating healthy food like spinach, peanuts & okra!!!

Is this as painful as shingles in my mouth a few years ago? No, it is not because this gives a little bit of rest in between butcher knife stabs. I HATE my life and just can't seem to get any breaks in my life before the next problem comes.

& this one guy in front of me had 4 surgeries in one year on his heart, had almost completely lost his sight from them & he was bound to a wheel chair.

Problems seem to create more problems and then there are the emergencies.

Sorry you are having so much piled on your plate right now. Bankruptcy is hard enough without "trimmings" and "dessert" piled on the plate also.

Personally I would wait to file till afterwards and include any and all medical bills that your insurance does not pick up. What are they going to do.....ARREST YA!!!! Not much they can do about it......

Sure hope you feel better soon and things quiet down around your house. Enough is enough and too much is just plain frustrating.......

Bandit, I’m with Minneymouth on this one. Four years ago, I had prostate surgery, and I’m full of wires and metal things. Eight months ago I attempted my own surgery with a Skill saw accident, life flighted to major hospital. Then, due to the surgeries, I developed a very bad hernia, that is not painful per se’ but “breaths” in and out of my gut. We leveled with a surgeon and was frankly told I was out of luck, even though I have COBRA, I cannot afford the co-payments. My general doctor said I had one of two choices, wait 8 months till I’m 65 and Medicare must take care of it, or let it go critical (which is if it gets pinched, 6 hours to bad times), and go into emergency room.

If you have current insurance now, leave it in place and get your operations before bk. Don’t let anyone know you plan to have a bk either. If you are transferring jobs your new group insurance must take you. With COBRA, you MUST pay 18 months of terrible payment then insurance company MUST take you as a continuing patient. This all I learned the hard way as I cannot charge off any bills after I filed bk, only previous bills (still incoming from the saw accident).

I have given birth to 5 children and kidney stones are unbearable compared to the pain of childbirth. No kidding!!

Men who have had kidney stones really do know what its like to give birth.. *lol*

I had one so big when I was pregnant with #4 that it put me in premature labor and I was in the hospital with a stent in place for 5 weeks. It was just awful.
After he was born exactly 5 days later. I was back in the hospital have laser lithotripsy done. That was only half successful. 3 of the water blasting procedure and the sucker was finally gone.

Knock on wood. I have not had one in 12 years! I hope to never again have another one.

I am so sorry for what you going through. The good news is... they can be removed!!! it may just take a little work.

The Doctors may be able to use ultra sound to break them up

there is no way to eat in a sense that i know of to pass them
Drink your water ( dont exceed 2 gallons a day you can wash out your blood and go into a coma)

Just got to pee them out and change your diet to avoid this happening again

I have never had kidney stones my self but I have a 12 year old that has. Imagine me driving a durango 90+ MPH with the hazards on to the hospital with him screaming in the back of the truck. Any officer that would have stopped us would have had his hands full. Luckly it was 4am so we were about the only ones out there. He refused to leave the hospital ER because their drugs were better. So he resided in the ER for 24 hours. I hope they give you some good drugs too. Good Luck.

As far as I know, kidney stones aren't a pre-existing condition. In fact, many people have kidney stones at any given time, but they are small and just pass through unnoticed. Your insurance MUST cover this!!!

I guess I am not so discouraged as I thought, FLBK7. I cried a lot in the prep room for surgery but I cried for the other people as I knew they were also having the same fears & pain & probably worse problems than mine.

but my stone never passed LOL! so they had the first surgery & removed it.

I hope they cover it. So far they haved covered all the meds but I have only had the insurance for less than 5 months. I am thinking positive about it though, because even if they dont cover it I can still pile it on the bankruptcy. This is not considered fraud or abuse, so in that respect I still have a lot going for me.

I feel bad for any child who has to experience that much pain at that young & tender age.
I was doing the same thing when I realized I would not be able to go thru this all at home & without surgery. I was headed back to the ER & I know EXACTLY what your son was thinking on the way & how happy he was when the relief came. He knew he was in the best possible place I wish I had stayed the 24 hours but I was trying to be tough guy & do it on my own. I was also screaming & rocking like a mad man from the pain, climbing up the walls & curling up in corners on the floor begging for mercy.

You did the right thing, dragonnfly, getting him there as fast as you did & letting him stay the 24 hours.

the ultra sound is the next one I have to go thru so they can break up the other two that are still in my kidney, making them possible to pass without the pain and without the surgery. I am not sure if that one is going need over night care like the first one but I am scheduling it ASAP & right after they remove the stent that I have now.

I am drinking a lot of water but I have been for a few months now, which I am thinking that is in part what caused them to pass, as I spent too many years drinking soda pop! instead of water

I think this one was the second worse pain for me. The first one for the worse pain was shingles in my mouth along the lower gums & under my teeth. That one I was ready to jump & even one doctor in ER said he knew that pain very well & that sadly people had literally taken their lives over shingles not being diagnosed correctly in time.


But kidney stones OMG- it just leaves you like a mad man or mad woman & bouncing all over th room like convulsions trying to stop the pain. I kind of wish I would have given birth...I mean if I were actually built that way because that would have probably been over a lot sooner & I would have been expecting...isn't expecting what we call it

When they first come out, there is absolutely no way of actually knowing what is happening, unless of course you had them before like you did.

But if you are telling me it was worse than child birth,my hunch is because the tube that it flows thru is never supposed to have ANYTHING pas thru it except water/urine & because of its small size.

I am also sitting with a stent right now & it BURNS when I urinate or sit the worng way. Just curious, did they give something called, TORADOL to stop the pain? or what? That was the only thing that worked/ is working on me.

Every time I use a skill saw, AngelinaCatHub, I think of the possibilites and dangers. You really have a bad one going there & I feel sad for you, I really do. That is one of my biggest fears of not being able to make the copayments & have them tell me TOO BAD FOR YOU- when in fact that is exactly what one BK attorney told me after I told him my situation(s).
It would be a long road honestly, I feel so worthless at times because I see what these horrible situations do to peoples lives.

Do you have pain from the metal and wires? or have you adjusted to them? The breathing & hernia, I just do not know what to say, but my heart still goes out reaching to you because I understand severe pain.

I am self pay insurance but If I recall COBRA was from an old job I had, it was too high & there was no way I could do it, but the plan I have now is so, so & ok ok...it will make things manageble.

I was also looking at some of the other prostate problems & surgeries while I was there & studying it a little closer. I guess we truly never know, we just do not know for sure how things will go. I do wish you the very best in your retirement & that the mean cruel pains will be far & few to zero, in between.

Glad you enjoyed the link! www.webmd.com is one of my most favorite websites for any medical-related questions, and I first heard about it from my own PCP! He did warn not to go overboard with the "self-diagnosing" part and to just call him with any questions before attempting self-medication/self-treatment.

Drinking a lot of water helps so much to prevent or alleviate a lot of medical conditions, not just kidney stones. I'm rooting for you, and hoping you won't need any more surgery or encounter any more medical problems.

I had some real nice people on this trip to the ER & being admitted. ONly one was I ready to push out the window when she kept trying to shove morphine into me & she would not listen to me that it DOES NOT WORK FOR ME.

what it did was, made me immobile & lay there on the floor crying because it was trying to make me fall to sleep but the pain was STILL THERE, so I could not move or tell anyone to help me. THAT was living a real nightmare, like those few who they mess up the anesthesia, they fall to sleep but feel every cut & hear every word in the operating room & this left a horrible sense of fear in me.

she said IT DOES WORK!!! YOu just think we are here to keep you high on drugs...shaking her finger in my face...as if I checked in there just to get shot up with drugs. (THIS WOMAN OBVIOUSLY HAD NO IDEA WHAT REAL SEVERE PAIN IS ALL ABOUT)...when I had two other nurses who specifically told me that toradol is the best pain killer for kidney stones & morphine does not work for everyone.

I told her (the mean one) to get her finger out of my face & to stop shaking it at me & if they do not give me the toradol immediately like the gave me in ER, I was going to leave the 4th floor & walk down to ER & get it myself.

She got the toradol for me

Everone else was very caring, understanding & I wanted to hug them all for helping me.

Hoping this will be the last bucket full for a very long time. Cheers!
