It's wonderful to see how proud you are of your son, and what a special young man he appears to be. Thanks for sharing!

I was in the Navy for 8 years and my DH has been in 19 yrs. I never heard of anyone getting care packages during boot camp/basic. Is this a Marine thing?

The support is admirable, but really, do you really need to go buy 100 protein bars. Also, I am kinda curious how my name entered this thread since I haven't posted to it.

Quite frankly, I gained weight in Boot Camp, so I can state from personal experience, they are not underfed. Just send a letter to your son; let some other sucker send the "care" package.

HHM - I lost weight in boot camp. I couldn't eat the food, it made me sick.

Sorry HHM, meant HRX. Get you guys mixed up. Yeah, they send requests now for items, Platoon size. My son seems to like the food.

In fact he sent a request for five hundred cleaning pads for rifles, mentioning something about specific calibre and such. have sort of ignored that.

BIL's son went in the week before mine and he had to send a two large cans of protien mix. Other parents on the Recruitparents forum are saying the same as me, they have sent envelopes, protien bars, soaps, all by request, all platoon size. Appearently this is something started lately. We have also been told by DI wives not to send things not requested or the recruit coulf get "skylighted". Guess its something new...

I think the Marines are milking families for things they should be supplying them with.

I have been part of the military one way or another all my life and I have yet to hear of anything like this until now.
