Im with you Hub. People come here they have to learn English. Keep your native tongue in the house but acknowledge and learn the language that you migrated to. I live in South Florida and everytime I go to Miami its like another country. Cubans living here always like to talk crap about Castro but they are just as corrupt when they involve themselves in municipal government. I also dont like the double standard of allowing "political refugees" from Cuba and when Haitians come over they get stopped and put in detention until sent back. Why because their skin is darker? I relished when the INS rushed that house and rescued Elian to give back to his father in Cuba. Cubans here are so irritated that Castro has lived this long and couldnt muster enough balls to attempt to take back their country from him except that disasterous Bay of Pigs incident. Do you think they will go back when Castro dies or if Cuba abandoned socialism? Hell no. They would rather milk this country than rebuild their own. How's that for general talk?

You may want to double check all that because he most definately did say these things as it was all over the headlines & news everywhere & made it very clear that they will integrate or leave. Howard also made it clear that he is not going to apologise for it. It was not just a chain letter of nothingness, while they may not be direct quotes, the jest of what happened is there. There was a whole lot more to it than what has already been quoted & it was directed toward the radicals of that religion & was hardly all fabricated
Yes, the snopes.com site explains all this pretty well. By fabricated I meant the letter was a collection of direct quotes from both the Georgia retired veteran in 2002 and a few of Brown's conservative politicians in 2005. Howard Brown may have agreed with the sentiments, but no world leader is going to express it like this letter did. Brown called a 2-day conference with muslim leaders after the 2005 Tube bombing, in which he said he would not tolerate muslim terrorism in his country. I think Bush and Tony Blair said the same thing after 911 and the Tube. About 3/4 of the letter were direct quotes from the Georgia american veteran about the muslims in the US after 911.

Someone in January 2008 resurrected an old chain letter from 2005 from Australia, and "re-fabricated" it to make it sound like Brown said it all. I guess that was supposed to lend credibility to it. Saying "here's what a retired veteran from Georgia wrote in the editorial column about the muslims in 2002 after 911, in his hometown weekly newspaper" would not be as useful as a propaganda piece. That was my point. You can read all the original sources on Snope. Interesting stuff - whether I agree with it or not.

I know you love Obama, but it had nothing to do with that.
This has NOTHING to do with our presidential candidates and our like or dislike of them.

Rumors and exaggerations have a way of getting repeated "all over the headlines and news everywhere." While Australia has always had strong control over their immigration policies (and rightly so!!!), you really need to check the snopes.com links that WhatMoney posted. I did. And I trust snopes implicitly because they always provide the original source that debunks the rumor in question.

Snopes was created precisely BECAUSE of these baseless rumors and/or exaggerations. If our news were truly fair and balanced, and if no reporter or journalist or commentator ever lied (LOLOL!!!!!), there would be no need for snopes.com or for urbanlegends.com either.

                  Corruption yes but,

I never laughed at it. I enjoyed my time there. I just viewed Miami as the place for cubans to go to & ft lauderdale as the place for hatians & jamaicans to go...no different than mexicans going to texas.

Though I prefered the area more when it was not so populated & it populated very quickly.

I do remember boat loads & intertubes floating up on that shore quite afew times!!

No one is saying it didn't happen, Bandit. The problem is that there is a HUGE difference in the specifics, language and tone used by Howard between the original post in this threat (by Hub), and the actual event. This is what I meant by exaggerations getting carried away by the media.

Here is the article, copied from the link you posted. The difference between the actual facts and the original post, is astonishing.

                      ******************************

                      Howard call to Australian Muslims

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has called on moderate Muslims to be more critical of terrorism.

In comments to mark the anniversary of the 11 September 2001 attacks in the US, Mr Howard said: "No decent genuine Muslim would support terrorism."

He also said Muslims must fully accept that Israel had a right to exist.

Islamic leaders in Australia have reacted angrily to the comments, saying Mr Howard should not single out Muslims for criticism.

"Instead of constantly singling out Muslim people, he should be trying to promote cohesion," the president of the Islamic Friendship Association, Keysar Trad, told Reuters news agency.

                      "We shouldn't pussyfoot around'

Mr Howard reaffirmed Australia's commitment to fighting terrorism during a special anniversary ceremony in Canberra.

He said that what happened five years ago was "an attack on the values that the entire world holds in common".

"We ... gather to reaffirm our commitment both as friends and allies of the people of the United States but also as citizens of the world to maintain the fight against terrorism," he said.

Australia has gradually strengthened its anti-terrorism laws since the events of 11 September 2001, and national police chief Mick Keelty said the nation was now safer than it had been then, because the level of awareness had increased.

But Muslim leaders say their community has been unfairly targeted by authorities.

Mr Howard was criticised two weeks ago for suggesting that a small minority of Muslim immigrants did not do enough to integrate into Australian society.

In an interview with The Australian newspaper on Monday, he insisted: "We are not attacking Muslims generally."

"But you have to call terrorism for what it is - it is a movement that invokes in a totally blasphemous and illegitimate way the sanction of Islam to justify what it does."

He added that "on occasions they [moderate Muslims] should come out and be more critical of terrorism".

"We shouldn't pussyfoot around," he said.

In a later interview with Sky TV, Howard also said that Muslims should accept the right of Israel to exist.

"If we could reach a settlement whereby there was a total acceptance of Israel's right to exist ... and also the establishment of a Palestinian state which was fully recognised, that would remove one of the arguments used by the fanatics," he said.

Mr Howard is a close ally of US President George W Bush, and has sent Australian troops to both Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the US-led "war on terror".

there are tons of articles & if you put them all together you most definately get what the OP is saying. There are towns there that do not want any islam migrating there & they have valid reasons for it.

I don't see the huge astonishing difference you are saying of reality just because it was a chain letter.
There are big problems there over this & IMO it makes the chain letter look mild & does not even cover half of what is really happening/ed.

& because he took a huge stand on that one issue should he have been elected again?. just my guess, NO though in the question over th OP - YES based on just that one incident I would vote for the man if that was all I knew. I wish we had more politicians who would make a stand for their nation & the people of it & stop pussyfooting just for global power

(Venting here) & that whole islam crap needs to be stopped or they WILL take over what is left of what is called the free world. Just as the christians & communists keep trying to do. (unventing)

What I am seeing is a bigger picture with individual politicians in competition with each other for global power...so all this, was just a little spat.

I understand & acknowledge your point, I just dont see that big of a difference in what really happened, the way you do.

Okay, as author of this thread, may I put 2 cents in? Whether it is true, or not true, and I also respect “snopes.com”, I would vote twice for anyone with the fortitude to say whatever this statement says. If it has not been said for real, IT SHOULD BE SAID HERE and in THIS COUNTRY. I don’t know the man but I agree with this article very much.

The whole concept of the “so-called” fact is, if I were leader of a country, state, county, city, or PTA, I would think and stand for the words stated in that rhetoric. ‘Hub

Well, if you are willing to move north to Georgia, you CAN vote for the author of most of this letter, and since it's Georgia, probably twice too.

Barry Loudermilk is up for re-election for the 14th district of the Georgia House of Representatives this year. His 2002 letter gained him enough fame to become a full-fledged politician:

                            http://www.barryloudermilk.com/

Four years ago when I made the decision to run for the Georgia State House of Representatives, I ran on a platform based on my core values and principles.

These principles are derived from the three documents that are the foundation of our government - the Bible, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. (Note the order of importance here.)

I committed to the people of the 14th District that if elected I would stand for less government, lower taxes, personal responsibility, liberty and traditional American Values.

After four years in the General Assembly I can say that without reservation I have consistently stood firm on these principles.

That is why in this years campaign I will promote the same ideas as I did four years ago. I haven't changed my beliefs since then so why change the message.

I hope you will join our campaign team as we continue to STAND FIRM on FAITH, FAMILY and FREEDOM.
A conservative republican of course, with the Bible and Faith as the most important parts of his campaign. I don't expect there are any muslims in his district.
This is the entire title to Barry's 2002 article, reproduced in his original color and font.
