Recently there was a show on the History Channel about Bonnie & Clyde, the couple who robbed 100s of banks in the 1930s.
After FBI agents murdered them there were over tens of thousands of mourners filling the chuches for memorial masses, and thousands of people at their funerals.

They (Bonnie and Clyde) were quite notorious and bloodthirsty killers. The FBI did John Dillinger in the same way. Biograph theater in Chicago, I think on Lincoln blvd. He was fingered by a girl in a red dress and was killed in the allyway right of the theater. 'Hub

Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger were all "killers" that the public found fascinating..... thats the main reason for the turnout of mourners. Everybody wanted to see the "killers" up close and personal.

Many, many years ago my grandfather was sitting in a local little restaurant in a small town in Ky. He was sitting there next to a "classy dressed young man" having lunch. They ate lunch and struck up a conversation.

Shortly thereafter, gun fire broke out, the young man pushed my grandfather to the ground, said "nice chatting with you" and run out the door and got into a moving car. That man was John Dillinger.

He didn't have to push my grandfather to safety, but he did......

John Dillinger was known to frequent the hills of Ky, and spend lots of time visiting ole friends of his in Paluski County, in the Nancy, Somerset, and Trimble, Ky area. The law could look for months and never find him there in those hills.

These old folks would not turn John Dillinger in, they just always said "catch him if you can!"

When the James brothers where killed at the O.K. corral, (I think) they put them in a glass covered coffin so as to display them to the public. Apparently the "romance" of some of these felons seem to mesmerize some. I would just love to see Charlie Manson in a glass coffin, after what his group did to Sharon Tate and others.

In the days of no internet, people lived by the radio and newspaper headlines so at that time it was a big thing and to be done by a couple made it even more sensational. Sorta like the Manson killings in 1969. People are fascinated with the lives and minds of those who are serial killers, bank robbers, bombers, etc., etc. even though the majority of them have been found to have mental issues or personality disorders. The media sensationalizes all that because it is income for them and even today's Star, Enquirer, People Magazine, etc., etc. have those big headlines to get your attention to buy the publication.
