As someone who has been an employee, supervisor and manager, I can't say enough for the personal touch. If you want to keep the bridges solid (because you just never, never know!), please tell your boss in person and don't resort to emails or voice mails. The reason isn't important as long as you give at least a week's notice and preferably two weeks. Since this is a part-time position in the retail field, just tell the truth. Such as, you're currently doing more than you can handle and need to concentrate on your personal life and other obligations.
Most employers value a timely notice so that they can fill your spot without any disruption to their operations, particularly in retail.BK 7 filed and discharged in 2004 after 30+ years of perfect credit. Life HAPPENS.

well, personally employers vary in regards to deceny and such.
Recalling my last days with a employer in MO. I thought I'd be one of those "Gee he's so nice to do this" type of guy, talk about being bent over and reamed.
Company was about to celebrate 25 years with big party (I'd have missed it by 3 weeks) and so they gave everyone chip for prize drawings for the entire month + 1/2 leading up to party.
Yep, I DIDN'T GET THE DAMN CHIP!
"Hey, why didn't I get a chip?"
"Because you're not an employee anymore"
"Excuse me, but I AM still employed till the end of THIS month. So yes, I AM an employee!"
"Boss said "No""
Left week early..Screw the cheap ba**ards.
