Rising Gas Prices

Gas prices are going up because of wallstreet. No national or global shortage, or high demand. What a shame....

Gas in MO today is 249.9... We bought a thermostat two years ago that you can program. It is a great tool and we have saved some money on that item. It cost about 50 bucks, but it drops the temps at night and brings them up to get ready for work drops during the day, and comes back up when we come home. You wake up warm, and come home warm. The one we bought is for electric, I guess the gas ones are more. But at least we don't forget to turn it down. It might drop off on a day off and we have to adjust it, but I would rather do that then have it warm and forget to turn it down before I leave. My memory is getting old too I guess!

I keep my heating temp around 62 degrees during the day. Sucks coming home to a cold house after work, but keeping the house comfy during the day is a waste of money. When I'm home I keep the house nice and toasty though.
A $300+ per month heating bill is obscene, making matters worse is half the bill are "administrative fees"!!

Michigan1951 Quote: "We keep the heat at 65 no matter what."
Wow... belong to the Polar Club?
We leave it set at 72 throughout the heating season. At that we are quite chilled and are wearing sweaters and socks...(though I have not given up on the shorts within the house).
Throughout the summer the air does not kick in until it reaches an inhouse temp of 80.
BTW, our local gas prices are up to $ 2.76 and over a weekend trip we pumped at $ 2.66 in Quincy, FL.

Gases prices today in the Ozarks, MO cheapest I found was 257.9 for Reg. Still cheaper than it was 1.5 years ago. Much cheaper than that period, but still far too expensive

Many probably already had their heating oil for this year, however the prices we pay to refill those will be significantly higher especially if the Democrats push that cap and trade bill through.

We keep the heat at 65 no matter what. We don't turn it on until end of October and shut it off in April. It really keeps a handle on the heat bill. We also added more insulation in the attic to suit our home in this area of Western Michigan.

The heating bill is going to be Obscene this year (again)
Especially, since the north east is getting hammered with constant deep freezing weather.

In London, it was close to 10 dollars a gallon. Our dollar buys 1 pound currency there too.

We need to come up with other energy sources other than gas to fuel our vehicles. giving all our money to terrorist counties is not helping anyone in the free world that is for sure. Plus we are kept under the thumb of big oil. The whole reason the price goes up is spectualtion that people will use more, it happens just before holidays and summer vacations. We need to stop it, and we need to stop depending upon oil from the middle east. We do not have enough oil to support our habit. The answer is other ways to fuel and I am all for that. How about if we invent something here in our nation and build it here? Hard to do with big oil demands that we stifle any attempts to change. Then backhands us every year with higher prices. Blame it on Obama if you like, but he was not in office in the late seventies when it first hit, nor was he in this time when the prices went though the roof. Our problems are who is buying Washington under both parties, not who is in office.

Ah I miss just driving to enjoy myself. At 7 dollars a gallon there's no way I'm enjoying myself. I drive to work and back. Exciting I know. I don't know how Obama's pledge of 17% emissions cut will pan out. How do you cut 17%?? Well besides taxes, and more taxes.Originally posted by momisery View PostOkay, on the way back up today since people might actually try to get out and "enjoy" themselves the gas companies want to make sure they make the best of their profits.. 2.49 this morning up from 2.41 the day before... Sooo with Obama promising an emissions cut, I'm thinking energy prices will rise. We'll be paying up the nose for gas soon.

I live in the subs, and I moved there because the housing was cheaper, I could not afford one in town. I would have loved to live closer to work. Of course I will be getting my wish next year as I will be renting in town I hope.. lol Some did move out to get better schools, and a lot more house. Many others did it to simply afford a home.
