Actually the law specifically prevents a *current* employer from firing a *current* employee just because he/she filed bankruptcy. Even then, it's not hard for an employer to find a reason to fire an employee and deny that it was bankruptcy even if it was (welcome to employment law - it's as intricate and messy as BK law). Also, employers can deny employment to an applicant based on their credit report. But, according to several lawyer sites online, generally speaking, firings and refusals to hire because of bankruptcy are rare.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

You can be denied a job due to bad credit and bk.....

      Is it right? NO
      Does it happen? YES!

I had 2 interviews with Bank One (the huge credit card call center building her in our town.) I passed with flying colors, They had me take a test to see what department best suited me, and I qualified for 3 different departments, even acing two to them. The woman said I was perfect, and wanted me to have a 3rd one with the department head. I sat and waited for a 3rd interview, and waited and waited. It had finally been 45 mins I went to the receptionist desk and asked what was up. Some woman said ...I'm sorry we don't have anything for you.....I was shocked. I left there dumbfounded. It wasn't until later we had pulled my credit report 2 years later, cause we were filing for BK, that we noticed a inquiry from Bank one...the exact same month of my interview.
I could see if I had a bank one account in bad shape, or a credit card that i was late on, but I had nothing but medical bills and collection accounts. I don't;t think that is fair, and it happens more that people think.
My Friend had applied and had the same situation as mine, except we had filed Bk about 2 years earlier, and she too was turned down.... again not fair. It;s hard to pin that one the company cause they can say anything....reference didn't check out, or not enough experience, to cover their butts.

good luck and I hope everything works out for you and you hear good news soon.
