I am not in US and I want to file bankruptcy. How would I do that?

    Hello,

I am no longer in US and would like to file bankruptcy due to no job or any income resource. How would I find a good lawyer to do that for me? Can anyone guide me in this regard?

If you do not reside in the US the question becomes whether or not you have a domicile, place of business, or property in the US. If the answer is “no”, you cannot file bk in the US. If the answer is “yes” you would file in the state where you either hold a domicile, business, or property. Once you find the state you can try to locate an attny through the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys:

You will also be required to return to the US and attend the 341a meeting of the creditors. You list your State as California - unless you are just over the border into Mexico, that could get expensive and inconvenient.
