I like freebies too, but think very carefully before signing up with AOL. They are legendary for how hard it is to stop their internet service once it starts.
See http://www.consumeraffairs.com/internet/aol_cancel.html for some real-life cases of frustration trying to get out of AOL contracts - it isn't pretty.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

My father just had an AOL trial account and had to call today since they had billed him anyway even though he had cancelled well in advance of his expiration date.
It's ironic that AOL is making such a big deal about this. If you use AOL messenger, they end up offerring you a free email account, just like yahoo and hotmail were doing forever. And if you cancelled your AOL account, you were able to keep the email address without using them for paid internet connectivity--they just didn't make this common knowledge.*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***
My posts represent hours of research on and off the web, these forums, my experience, and my opinions.
