Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!) (updated: 04/28/2015)

Welcome to the Bankruptcy Forum. Bankruptcy (BK) Forum is known as and will be referred to as BKF hereinafter. In order to ensure a long term success of our vibrant community, we have established certain rules and guidelines to which everyone must adhere to. Please take your time to carefully read our rules, before you start to participate in the community.

Things you agree to do: (BKF) users agree to use the search function before starting a new thread. This prevents duplicate discussions and allows for better organized topics.

All BKF users agree to read the sticky posts which may be available at the top of a forum page. These Sticky posts often contain valuable information. They may also outline more rules and guidelines specific for that particular forum, stickies are put in place by that forums moderator(s) or admin(s).

Things you agree not to do:

All BKF users agree not to call people names or write a post simply to make a personal attack, or get a negative reaction; this behavior is not allowed on our forum. The use of derogatory language aimed at anyone will be severely dealt with. There is no need to agree with each other, or to even like each other. However, by signing onto you agree to treat each member and guest with the respect they deserve. No threats or personal attacks will be allowed.

All BKF users agree not to discuss, engage, or encourage any behavior or activity which violates the law. Discussion of drugs, violence, murder, theft, vandalism, fraud or any other issue which could be used to help individuals break the law is strictly forbidden.

All BKF users agree not to "bump" old threads, unless there is a specific benefit to the community by doing so. But in most cases, please don't post in very old threads, instead start new threads.

All BKF users agree not to attempt/use another members account. It is against BKF rules to use any account other than your own. Impersonating another member will result in an immediate ban. Regarding actions of moderators and administrators:

The forum is no place to air out your opinion or be judgmental of our staff and its capabilities.

All BKF users agree not to abuse or mistreat moderators or administrators. It is against BKF rules to post any information regarding bans or any other action taken by a member of the moderating or administrative team. If you wish to discuss bans or warnings please do so via PM. To place a complaint against a moderator, send a PM to a super moderator. All Moderators are equal, any decision made by a moderator must be adhered to. If a moderator tells you something you do not like, do not go to another moderator looking for a different answer. If you are caught doing this you will be banned. The moderators work as a team and respect the decisions made by their peers and will help enforce them unless an administrator tells them differently.
If you have an issue with how the forum is run, then notify one of our administrator and we will look into the situation. We have in the past and still do appreciate any input that you offer this forum. But critical input and/or judgmental postings towards the staff will result in you getting banned.

Should you find a thread offensive or out of line, then notify a Mod in a PM so they can evaluate the situation and do the action deemed necessary.

If you have a problem with a member or Mod follow the proper channels of reporting it.

BKF reserves the right to delete any posts which contain anti-BKF comments or discussion. Any bashing of moderators or administrators, or any of their discussion or actions will also be deleted, and the responsible posting party(s) will be banned. Any public anti-BKF advertising, communication, or posts on another forum will result in permanent bans as well.

All warnings and bans are decided by individual moderators and administrators. Warnings are preferable to bans however, for serious offenses and repeat abusers bans will go into effect. The length of the bans can vary from several hours to permanent.

  • BK has been removed from my record! Free at last!

I filed for Chapter 13 on August 17, 2010. Made my last payment to the trustee on July 15, 2015. Was discharged on Dec. 31, 2015.
The 5 years of trustee payments, and having no credit made life difficult. But living without crazy credit lines was something I needed to learn, because that's what got me into trouble in the first place.

About 2 years into the BK I gradually built back my credit by applying for CC and only using a few hundred dollars of the $500 credit limits I was given. I always paid my bills early... I travel a lot for business and there were some nervous times checking into the hotel or renting the car, just hoping they would not put too much of a "hold" on my funds....

For years I constantly checked my credit rating using the Capital One credit checker (they were the first card to offer me any credit).... My score started in the low 600's, and crept up to about 670 over three years.... I was even able to buy 2 used cars with this crappy score, and thanks to a large down-payment!

Now into 2017, I knew I was getting close to the magical 7 year date when all the bad news on my credit sheet would start to disappear. To my surprise, I got an e-mail from Capital One two weeks ago telling me that my credit score had changed. I opened it up, and my score had jumped over 100 points to 780. I checked out all the items below and incredibly all the "public records" section was BLANK! The BK had been removed!!!

Way back at the beginning of all this, there were some very dark days where it felt like there was no hope. I read this forum up and down, looking for answers and trying to relate all the stories to my own. This forum is an incredible resource, and has helped so much. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and its not the big train I thought it was many times during the BK journey...

Yours is a very meaty experience. So many can learn not to be afraid through you. Thank you for posting the "life after" filing.

Can i ask you a question? Does the BK come off your records after discharge? Or is it 7 years no matter what?

Thanks I needed to read this right now as I get ready to enter the 60 month club. Congrats, I'm 52 so hope to be filed and approved before I turn 53, LOL. Guess I'll be near Social Security age by the time I'm done 5 years in will be 57, 2 more years to remove puts me at 59. Wow what a great gift for my golden years!

Wow- that is so awesome. its a hard journey but one where we are taking full responsibility and learning the lessons we didn't grow up with. i sleep better than i ever have - i have no regrets doing this. is it hard? yes. just took vacation and it was me being home with the family and just doing what I always do when I'm not working. i don't want to spend $$ because I am trying to build that emergency fund. for once in my life, i have an emergency fund being built up.
