I cannot imagine an attorney filing any bankruptcy case before being paid in full! The attorney I called made it clear to me that she would NOT accept a credit card (as if I would try and charge my BK on it and then not pay her! lol). She wanted $1K up front.

Ok Folks after the experience my wife's friend had with a bankruptcy lawyer, I am so glad that I filed by myself without an attorney. Now it took about a week to educate myself using a specific bankruptcy book and then a further week to fill out the forms. I did make mistakes such as forgetting creditors and forgetting to produce a reaffirmation agreement but I rectified those issues. Overall, my advice is this, if your case is not a straight forward filing or is a chapter 13 then a lawyer is needed...............but if you have a no-asset case like mine then save your money and put a little sweat into doing it yourself. I will say this though, there were a few questions that arose that I needed a lawyer to answer. I managed to get those answers with a little persistence with my calls to find lawyers who would spare you 5 mins to give you an answer.

Final cost..................$299 filing fee + $26 for amended schedules
