But I'll definitely try the others. And I will definitely look at cleaning up the Chexsystems reports. I should get the letter shortly of what is in the report so I can dispute it.

    Thanks again!
PNC has a great Foundations Checking Account for people with no credit or bad credit.

Update: SUCCESS! I was just able to open a checking account with Capital One. These guys are amazing! They took a chance on me, again and again! First, they got me a new credit card (albeit a small limit but it can increase after a while) and after I burned them for an equally small amount in the BK. Then they opened this checking account, without my doing much (I submitted a DL Photo). I will get my new check book and ATM Card within a week or so.

      Yay Capital One!

Congrats! How soon after BK did you start applying?

I applied only recently. I didn't realize that my original bank had filed a negative report against my accounts on Chex without clearing it up after I filed the BK and was discharged. So, I filed a dispute with Chex to have it removed, and they did it! I then applied within a month or two, thereafter.

AVOID CAPITAL ONE!! Especially their 'free' checking account. There is nothing free. YOU are the product. Take a look at their privacy policy. They track and sell a lot of how you use your phone app.

The Capital One Online Privacy Policy details how we collect, use, and share information. It provides you with choices for how you can manage your information and preferences.

I am quite happy with my CapitalOne Quicksilver credit card; in fact, even though it is my lowest limit card, it is arguably my regular go-to card for everything except for dining, groceries, and gasoline (my other cards have better rewards in those categories). As for their privacy policy, I'm not sure why you think their privacy policy is all that unique; as far as I know, literally every lender in this digital age collects more or less the same information.

Most everything that you use online you give up certain rights. Google Ads are littered everywhere on almost every major website. If someone doesn't want free checking, there are plenty of big banks that offer premium checking products (or limited checking accounts).

Some people are willing to give up behavior tracking for free stuff. If you have a cellular phone, you've given up everything already. (Where you sleep, eat, where the bathroom is in your home, where you work, play, drive, etc. Welcome to the 21st.)

Let's not even mention that any credit or debit card gives up your spending habits and places your frequent as well. This data mining has been there since at least the late 1990s. The only way to get away from all this is to move into the woods, cancel phone, cable, satellite, cell phone, credit cards, debit cards, and banks. Install some solar panels and go off grid. Otherwise our everyday interaction is tracked.

It all started with Radio Shack asking for our address to "send a catalog."

(P.S. just opened an email from Victoria's Secret and they are now telling me that if I don't opt-in and provide an email address, I no longer get special coupons, a birthday gift, or upgraded card status which comes with free shipping. I also must "open" one email every 12 months as well.)

If it's the standard "data mining" that comes with most electronic/Internet services, these days, then I'm OK with it. Actually, I think it better to allow it, as going "off grid" or attempting to prohibit its collection these days might be more of a "red flag" alert to the authorities than not. I'd rather some data to be mined and just "blend in" with the crowd, rather than "stand out" in it. Hopefully, I'm so boring that I can lull them to sleep. In other words, I think the best policy is to "hide in plain sight," rather than actually try to hide.

So far, so good with Capital One. Although, I am a little miffed by their "New account 30 day" rules. The rules for when deposit items clear and are made "available" are different if the account is less than 30 days old. In my case, I sent (electronically) $100.00 from my BBVA account to the Cap One acct. They put a 5 day hold on that deposit before it went "available." So, at 05/15, I'll have passed that 30 day period. I got my pension plan converted over to them, and they told me it (as with other "direct deposit" items) would clear immediately, same as cash. I called them yesterday to check on whether or not my Social Security payment would clear the same, and they told me yes it would. That said, it didn't matter because the SSA indicated that the change, although registered, would not go through for two payment cycles (next one is May... It won't change until the July pmt cycle). I guess they want to make sure it was "me" actually requesting the change. They have to send me a letter verifying it, etc. etc.

I hope the BBVA / PNC merger doesn't happen right away in June, then. I have to wait until then before I can close out the BBVA account.

I honestly never understood this 'meh privacy..i have nothing to hide' philosophy. Allowing mega databases to be built up around individuals violates fundamental constitutional right (1st, 4th, others).

This surveillance tracking spills over into right of access to public services and discrimination in employment, housing, etc.

Example: I was attempting to get dmv services online. The form asked for city location. But the pulldown on the form was broken. Being technically minded I figured out why. The site had facebook, twitter, and a TON of third party trackers. The form would not submit unless those trackers were allowed access. Why is a third party service preventing my right to use gov services?? The form should not be programmed to NOT work if these trackers dont not get included in the transmission.

Even after i turned off all the trackers. It still didnt work. I have to call in. .... because of facebook and twitter analytics

To just say 'meh, doesnt bug me', is being the frog that is slowly boiled.

A good movie on this subject is on youtube

                    Shoshana Zuboff on surveillance capitalism

I was watching the speech last night. a strong emphasis was placed on 'we the people'. lol. More like we the corporations.

The "meh, privacy" comes about because unless you go into the woods, off-grid, no car, no bank, no credit cards, no electricity, no town/city/state services, no income, and never interact with humans again, then you are going to end up in an aggregated dataset.

Apple just announced some cool things for their products which is driving the likes of Google, Amazon, Twitter and others that like to track, crazy.

let me leave you with this. If you have a cellular phone, you are already giving up more data than Google, Amazon, Twitter and others would ever want. In fact, they probably buy the raw data from the phone companies (in aggregate). The cellular phone data and use of smartphones is probably the most invasive monitoring you could get. Because people literally sleep with their cellphone and bring them to the bathroom, the phone company knows exactly where you sleep in the house, where your bathroom is located, where you work, which direction you drive to work, at which stores/gas stations you visit to and from your home, other homes and businesses your visit, etc, etc, etc.

Privacy may be the new currency.

So unless and until you give up at least your cellular phone, you are part of the system. All of these unique and fancy tools that we enjoy come with some price. We quit readily give Google or Facebook full access to our list of friends and family and browsing habits in exchange to play some game or participate in some survey (personally I don't).

(I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I do think we deserve some level of privacy. People give up so much privacy without realizing what you give up by using gMail or any "free" service. As they say, if it's free... you're the product.)

This is getting off topic a bit, so please lets get back to the topic on hand.

Good Luck. I do my best to stay far away from payday loans. Something with an APR Greater than 100% is just way too much for me. Sadly, they're the only ones that are offering me credit amounts over $1000.00 now, but I'll make do without them.

Well, the merger between BBVA and PNC has been announced, officially. I have until October 2021 until it's completed. But I will be long gone from BBVA prior to that, having successfully gotten a checking account with Capital One.
