    Unexpected positive consequences of filing BK?

    Something came up in another thread that got me thinking. We all know the consequences of filing a BK, not the least of which is the hit to credit and the stress.

    One thing that surprised me during my process is that once I filed good things started happening too. For instance, I lost weight that had creeped on during the previous year without even trying. I found myself making positive changes in my life that I had previously put off...including ending a relationship that I knew was going nowhere. It was like once I was forced to face the debt (thanks so much Chase lawsuits) I was ready to move forward.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?
    A fresh start is a beautiful thing. And I'm not an attorney, just opinionated!

    Bless you Discombob. Yes, positive things are ALWAYS happening. I was always mad that God was slamming the door in our faces when it came to employment, luck, luck in real estate, etc. Little did I know, He was forcing me to the door that would finally lead me to peace. The peace didn't come when I was so twisted in debt and praying for "new ways" to pay it off. The peace came when I finally decided it's time to go to BK Court and literally and figuratively ask for forgiveness and start over. I just wanted help to get rid of the debt that got worse and worse when I robbed Peter to pay Paul. I feel so much better now than before I filed, but I imagine once I get my discharge I will feel the weight REALLY gone.
    Filed Ch. 7 11/8/10: Survived 341 Meeting 12/13/10 Report of No Distribution!! 12/14/10Received UST Presumption of Abuse!! 12/15/10 UST states Dismissal is Inappropriate! DISHARGED!! 2/22/11

      same here!!!! besides the weight....many blessed happens began...and even though right now we have some terrible family health issues...i know if you play it forward and come from the right place in your heart it will all be alright!!

      i really hate to say it this way....but this bk has been one of the best "things"....NOT experiences exactly....but the results has been so much better than we ever could have thought...like our lives after all these years of breaking our backs is finally falling into place.

        One thing that I can say happened with me, was that once my case was filed, I was actually able to sleep. I was soooo stressed and suffering from depression, from the fact of creditors calling me and my relatives non stop. I can remember one time that I was actually up 32 hours with no sleep.
        Filed: 5/22/07; 341 Hearing: 6/27/07;
        Confirmed: 8/13/07; DISCHARGED 4/17/2012

          Are you kidding?!?

          If I had known about the losing-weight-part I would've jumped on the wagon a long time ago. As it stands, I've got my first meeting with an attorney tomorrow. Maybe I should jump on the scale tonight! Not to make light of a decision that we all make in all seriousness... but wow... another reason to look forward to a clean start. Great thread and thanks for sharing!!
          OK - from now on it's not a "Bankruptcy." It's a "Weight Loss Program." I'm in. Sign me up.

                I'm so glad others have experienced that silver lining! I think stress and guilt do so many things to the body and mind. Then you get used to feeling that way and forget what "normal" feels like.

                By taking control of my finances I was granted a new start... for the first time in a long time I know I won't waste it!
                A fresh start is a beautiful thing. And I'm not an attorney, just opinionated!

                      I'm with you clevelandmom. I have no doubt the Lord chastised me....brought me to my knees with debt, then showed me the way out.
