    Thefts/Break In's on the Rise

The current economy not only brings out all sorts of scam artists but also the thieves. With all the layoffs, cut hours, foreclosures, etc., people find illegal ways to keep afloat and you can become a target as we all well know. You are not safe anywhere. My oldest daughter is a RN at a large East Coast hospital. She had to drop off a package inside the hospital first and then go park her car the other morning (6:30 a.m.). She parked directly in front of the main entrance, locked her car and went inside for about 3 minutes with security cameras rolling and security folks all over the place. A car pulled up; two men jumped out, smashed her driver's side window in an instant and grabbed her GPS and her son's IPOD which was on the floor of the passenge side. That quick it was done and they were gone. They have it on camera but she does not recognize any of them or the other vehicle. It is believed she was targeted when she pulled in as this is an increasing crime in her area.

Do not assume anything as to your vehicle or person when out in public. Hide it, leave it at home or don't take it if you don't need it. You are always a target and can be hit at anytime, even in your own home driveway as it the increasing crime here in my area. People here are even having their lawn chairs or other outside items stolen, sheds broken into, etc.

So glad that your daughter is ok, Flamingo! So sorry to hear that her car was damaged and things taken. As our economy worsens, I think we'll see a rise in this kind of smash and grab crime (and worse) increase as more and more people on the edge grow desperate.
