Cell phone answer greeting

In college I had the following on my answering machine:

"Thank you for calling. All operators are currently busy, please hold the line and someone will be with you shortly...

Unfortunately, no one is available to take your call, please leave your name and number at the tone and someone will return the call as soon as possible.


That lasted about a week until my dad called and was furious he waited 5 minutes for the greeting end to leave me a message. (That was back when the 100 mile in-state call was about 40-50 cents a minute.)

One of my friends in grad school had the line from "Cool Hand Luke" on his answering machine:

"What we have here is a failure to communicate."

Said he only had one person who ever answered with the next line in the movie, which is something like

"some men just cannot be reached".

All of my phones, cell and home, have the same greeting~~~OK let's call it a warning.

"You have reached the home of Ken and Shirley.
We do not accept calls from solicitors, surveyors or politicians of any kind. You may have a right to call under the law and that right had just been revoked by this recording which is in accordance with the law in that you have now been told not to call.
If you call again I will report you to the do not call list where I am registered.
Try me.
If you want to leave a message for us please do so at the sound of the tone."

Now I did have one solicitor call here and leave me an obscene message telling me I was an ***hole and I could F**& off and hung up.
I googled the phone number on my caller ID and found out he was only 100 miles away in Phoenix where my kids live and worked out of his home. I even managed to get his name off the internet as he advertised heavily to get business there using the number.
It's amazing what information you can get on the internet today.
Anyway, I called him and demanded an apology. He told me what I could do with myself. He was really brave over the phone.
The next trip I made to see the kids and my grand kids I went to this guy's house. I knocked on the door and asked for him by name and told him someone had just side swiped his car in the street.
When he came outside I hit him as hard as I could and put him on the ground.
As he shook his head in disbelief I told him very clearly that the next time he leaves an obscene message on an answering machine he might want to think twice about it.
Then I left.
Some people you just don't mess with. I think I educated him I am betting that when someone does not want his calls he thinks twice about how to address the issue.
Did I mention that I don't get many calls? Those that call listen to the message and hang up for the most part. I do not answer calls that are blocked from caller ID or any phone numbers or names that I don't know.

Hmmmmm....so you deliberately searched for information about him on the internet and then made verbal threats over the phone to him before purposefully going to his home and tricking him out of his house to punch him. You committed assault and battery, Ken. That's a serious offense.

Better hope he doesn't press charges against you. He'll very likely win his case if he does, a**hole or not.

I call it payback.
I got to him some 3 months after the incident. I seriously doubt that he even knew who I was.
I am certain that if he left an obscene message on my machine he also insulted others along the line
He just assumed he was safe on the phone.
I also told him if he filed a report I would be back.
I don't like people that mess with me and I take care of the matter.
I have always liked a good fight and I have only lost a few.

The end never justifies the means, Ken. In other words, good intentions can have very unfortunate consequences.

You put yourself in big-time jeopardy to do what you did. He could have been carrying a gun for self-protection or been a black belt hand-to-hand combat expert - what would you have done then as you lay on the ground bleeding and hurt (or worse)? Glad for your sake that wasn't the case here because you instigated the encounter and threw the first punch. You wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on.

Did I mention that I carry a .357 Mag on my belt in the open as permitted by AZ law 99% of the time?
And this clown weighed about 140# wet. I am much taller and 240#. I can take care of myself.
Just mark me "Does not play well with others."
I was very good at what I did in the Army by the way.

I used to have owl calls on my answering machine message. I like owls and I wanted something original. The calls were from section on a nature cassette. It took me many times to get the timing perfect so I could leave my "voice" message in between a few long great horned owl "hoots". My friends used to complain the message was too long and creepy. I thought it was cool!.

One time a got a wrong number and the person said " Well, I think I have the wrong number but that was the creepiest message I ever heard!"

My cell phone message says that the caller has reached my number and then I let my 22 month old son sing his ABC's. I thought the bill collectors would like hearing a toddler sing that song over AND OVER AND OVER again. My little motive...
