    Financial Management courses.

Hi I was wondering if this might be a good topic. You have to do a pre-filing financial management course and a post-filing course.

Perhaps we should compile a list of accredited websites that offer these classes and what the prices are so we can compare. I've seen so many wild differences in prices.
    Filed 09/08/10, $26k unsecured. Plan submitted 09/16/10, $250/mo X 36 Months = $9,000.
    First Payment: 09/28/10 341 Hearing: 10/12/10, Confirmation: 10/28/10
2nd debtor education course taken: 02/05/13. DISCHARGE: 10/10/2013.

I actually just took my pre-filing course last night. Per my attorney, we used www.debtorwise.org. $25 for the 2 of us and it didn't take long. Less than an hour I think. Basic questions, just had to have information from my paystubs and my budget.
    Filed: 11/10; 341: 1/11; Confirmed: 2/11
49 payments down, 11 to go...

If you live anywhere other than Alabama or North Carolina, you can do the pre-filing class for free at http://www.consumerbankruptcycounseling.info/

But, if you need your certificate quickly, you should go elsewhere. From their FAQs:

      Q. When should I expect to get my certificate of counseling?
      A. ConsumerBankruptcyCounseling.info does not guaranty prompt delivery. Once you have completed the internet data entry portion of the credit counseling, your counseling session is NOT over and you will NOT get a certificate of counseling until one of our counselors has contacted you through e-mail communication.

A counselor will review your entries and e-mail you an analysis and possible solutions to your financial situation, usually within 24 hours of your submitting all necessary information. Once you have adequately reviewed the counselor’s comments, you will be able to access the portion of the site that will enable you to receive your certificate of counseling. Your certificate will be e-mailed to you and/or your attorney, usually within one business day of completion of all aspects of the necessary counseling. From beginning to end this process may take up to 3-5 business days.

If you believe this delay in getting your FREE Certificate of Counseling will be detrimental to you, you may want to contact another provider which is not exclusively internet based in the way ConsumerBankruptcyCounseling.info is. A list of such providers (typically fee-based) is contained on this website under “Referrals”. In addition, providers of credit counseling services that are not exclusively internet based (typically fee-based) often advertise on the right hand side of this site. These providers, however, are in no way recommended by or affiliated with ConsumerBankruptcyCounseling.info
ETA: I didn't notice before that the counseling is free, but they charge $5 for the certificate. Still a good deal!

Filed Chap 13 April 2010. Discharged May 2015.
$143,000 in debt discharged for $36,500, including attorneys fees. Money well spent!

thanks for that great info lir...we had to pay a total ov $100....$50 for the pre...and $50 for the post...the site was recommend, of course, by our atty, most likely the firm got a cut for the recommendation.

as long as it's court approved it would be an excellent "sticky" to list the current accepted courses!
