I think -- and it's just me thinking -- you want to do the bankruptcy after the divorce is final. That way your property settlement agreement (PSA) and other things are done and then you can discharge any dischargeable debt (unaffected by the PSA) at that time.

started a topic Question RBCO vs QDRO (Chapter 7)

    RBCO vs QDRO (Chapter 7)

Do looking down the barrel of a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Freshly divorced, and I have a government retirement plan (TSP -Thrift Savings Plan) that requires a RBCO (Retirement Benefits Court Order) instead of a QDRO (Qualified Domestic Relations Order).

I fully intend to fulfill the RBCO requirement but is there any special treatment I need to worry about? Will a bankruptcy filing cause this to be stopped or upended?

Not the divorce is finanl, just fulfilling the last requirements.

    Thank you for any insight.
