I had a friend in junior college a quite few years ago who agreed to work at subway and other min wage jobs for a year while her boyfriend finished pre-med. In return, he would help her out when he was done.
Well it turned out he spent all the money on booze and hanging out with his friends. She caught on, after about a year, but she had gotten pregnant and her credit trashed paying for things like expensive bikes that he bought on her cards. That's what reminded me of your story - and yeah I don't know what it is with these guys and bikes...??
When I first met this friend - years after the above story happened - I couldn't believe it. She was one of the strongest people I knew at the time and a very intelligent person.
So don't feel too bad - it's an expensive mistake - not even as expensive as my mistakes! I hope you can make the most of it and move on. :-)
Remember you're the most important person in your own life - you have to take care of yourself first and your own best interests before considering someone elses.

It's hard but you can do it andybell! Therapy, exercise, hell, drugs (no i'm not talking about crack, I'm talking about a prescription). Help is out there, and a fresh start is your god-given right. Just take hold of it and stop holding yourself prisoner.
I can honestly say I, for one, gave myself far greater pain than any creditor ever gave me. We are just numbers to them. THEY DON'T CARE. Don't make it a personal thing.

Trust me, you are not stupid by any stretch of the imagination. I was taken for a lot more than $5k by a man I was married to. Things could have been much worse. Just learn from your mistakes and since you are filing BK I would try to erase him from memory and move on with a clean slate. That's what I had to do. Good luck.

...and when you meet the right one it is worth whatever challenges you may face. My wife and I commonly lament that we didn't meet long ago, but then again, we probably weren't ready yet and it may not have worked. We appreciate each other so much now.
Love is a crazy thing. You will do stupid things, but when you find the right one (as I have)...NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!!!!!

Hang in there merime...we've all made bad choices with relationships. No one is exempt from this mistake. At least it only cost 5K and not 500K!!!

I must say 'merime', you are such a good sport. We sure trashed your original reason, but I also must say, this has been the most entertaining thread I have seen. Thank you so much, and I hope you too, have benefited from the seriousness to the levity, that you allowed us to enjoy. Your contribution helped us as well as we making our effort to help you. Thank you so much. 'Hub and all of us.Originally posted by merime View Postthe dr thing is so true

YES! I like that line. And in two senator's (one now deceased) case, they could say; "and we could work this out 'under the table'".Originally posted by justbroke View PostI think I could pass for a wannabe BK Attorney!
