Question When is BK 13 removed from credit history

We filed 3/30/18. I don't remember when the first payment was made, maybe in April 2018, I know we made payments before it was confirmed.

Does this mean after 7 yrs the BK will not be on the credit report? Would that be around April of 2025 ?

Does it totally disappear, no mention of it? Do former creditors no longer appear or not have a notation of paid during BK 13 (or something similar)?

Please see my sticky note Credit Bureau Early Exclusion.

Here's a general response to your question.
    • The last credit bureau will be Equifax (EQ) and it will fall off about 2/1/2025. Just wait for this. Do not touch!
    • Transunion (TU) allows early exclusion and you should be able to TODAY dispute and have it removed within an hour. TU allows early exclusion 6 months before the 7 years, so that 6 month date would be 9/1/2024. They may have already removed it!
    • Experian (EX) will automatically stop reporting after 12/1/2024 since they have a 3 month exclusion period.
There will be no mention of it as a public record. However, you may have some lingering accounts that were "included in (the) bankruptcy" (IIB) and they will have traces of the bankruptcy. The notation on those accounts would be IIB. I might want to dispute them, based on my schedule I listed in my sticky note. I say "might" because the old accounts may be helping your average age of accounts.

Thanks justbroke I haven't checked my credit report in a few months. I will follow up on these probably in December or January. I want to keep an eye on the credit score and get more serious about rebuilding my credit and my husband's credit in case we end up moving and renting. That won't happen until at least 3 yrs from now. Plenty of time to build up credit. I haven't been too vigilant at this point, but once the BK drops off I will make it a priority. It's exciting because it really puts the BK behind us. I can't believe just over 2 yrs have passed since we were discharged.

They have excellent resources here on rebuilding credit that have helped me tremendously.

@carmella, Experian should have stopped reporting the Chapter 13 BK on about 12/1/2024. Have you checked lately?

justbroke I haven't checked yet. I probably won't until after the first of the year just because it's kind of busy right now and we have been cleaning up our basement and will new plumbing installed and then repaint the walls to finally get a new washer / dryer in a refreshened space! It's great to be able to work on these projects and afford them in the post BK life!

A bankruptcy typically stays on your credit report for 7 years from the filing date, not the payment date. Since you filed on 3/30/18, it’s likely that your bankruptcy will be removed from your credit report around March 2025. However, the exact timing can vary depending on the credit reporting agencies and how they update their records.

It's great to have no sign of BK on the credit report!

I filed for chapter 13 on 09/19/2018 and have been discharged. I got an early exclusion with Transunion a couple months ago but it seems Experian hasn't automatically done it for me as I'm less than the 3 months now. Any idea when they may do it or is worth filing a dispute like I did with Transunion?

Do not file a dispute, Experian will most likely drop off on 01-Jul-2025.
                    Chapter 13 (not 100%):
                    • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank cum Bank of Southern California

                    • MoC: 01-Mar-2015

Thanks for the advice. So I got a 50 point score bump on Experian this morning. I noticed it seems they removed the chap 13 info from my individual accounts but I still see in the Public Records section that it still lists my discharged bankruptcy. Will they soon remove that also?

Yes, the public record annotation will drop off as well. I know it is hard to be patient when this close to the finish line, but do yourself a favor, and be patient.
