I would never RENT furniture or elctronics. That is like paying 4 times what it is worth. That is worse than credit cards.

I saw some awesome stuff at the salvation army last weekend and i almost bought this big puffy chair, awesome upoholstery, sturdy with ottoman in mint condition by Lane.

I like some of the uphosltered stuff from Ashley, middle of the road furniture.

Craigslist is an option....you know, the unthinkable

x2, also keep craigslist.org in mind. i got my just-like-new ikea couch ($400 in store) off craigslist for $150.

Shoot...we're building a whole HOUSE from Craigslist! Insulated doors & windows that somebody's builder mismeasured...woodstove & pipe...a great old 40's cookstove... a solid iron table saw just like the one that died... cedar shakes... shingles... plywood... there is NOTHING you can't get on Craigslist if you look long enough!

How about IKEA - they have pretty cheap deals. Also read the paper in the for sale section sometimes people are having moving sales usually on Saturdays..They would be eacy to negotiate with they want to get rid of the stuff for the move - wait towards the end of there sale and you can negotiate a much better price.

i cant save money up however i can make payments. my reason for a BR was mainly tax based. it had little to do with cc debt.

If you can make payments you can save money...make a payment to an envelope or a savings account.

Alright when it comes to most credit issues I am not one to give advice. However, after being wrapped up in the stupid rental game for over 3 years I can tell you "DONT DO IT!!" We wasted sooooooooo much money. If you have company coming and you need an extra bed for a week that is one thing but otherwise do not do it! You go in and think, I can pay this off early and save some money. Most of the time is wont happen. Why pay more a week when they will let you have it for less? And they are very good at talking you into getting things you know you do not NEED. Want and Need are very different and it took us a long time to realize that. Please do like the others suggested and try something like craigslist or freecycle.

Rent to own places are the worst sort of scam. Do you really want to pay 1500$ for a 500$ couch? Seriously.

This is about the only advice I like from that Dave Ramsey guy. Rent-to-own is a RIP OFF.

Check out freecycle, craigslist, goodwill, or do without.

Go to Goodwill or the Salvation Army EVERYDAY and eventually you will find some great things to fill your house for very very cheap!!!

What ever you do, do not use rental furniture places, they are such a rip-off comparatively speaking.

Honestly, what furniture do you absolutely have to have at this point. Chapter 13's are supposed to be tough and sacrifices are necessary. If you can't pay cash for the item, then you go without and make do.

Court Furniture Rental will also sell their "used" furniture. Court Furniture Rental is a few steps up from Rent-A-Center. They really cater to Corporate Rentals, so the quality is a little better. I rented from them while my house was under construction.

All furniture was new when i got it, and they don't do "weekly" rentals. They only do monthly or quarterly. You may look into them for purchase or rental, but they are credit sensitive for rentals.

Some furniture rental stores also sell their used furniture at very low prices. When my daughter and her husband were newlyweds and bought their first house, they furnished most of it with used rentals sold by Aaron's Rental Center. Don't know if Aaron's is in your area, but most likely all furniture rental places sell their rental returns for a pittance.

Have you thought about posting your furniture request on Freecycle.org? You would be surprized at what you can get for free just for asking

YES!!!! Good advice!! You can also check the free section of Craigslist. Free is always good. If it is ugly, go to the library and check out a book on making slip covers or re-upholstry if you are handy. You can get super cheap fabric on the $1 table at Walmart.
